The VLA Legal Clinic
Legal clinics are offeredat our offices in the Paley Building, 1 East 53rd Street, 6th Floor, and at certain times at a member law firm in Manhattan. The Clinic is an opportunity for VLA members to seek advice on their arts-related legal issues in a half hour private appointment with one of our volunteer attorneys. The VLA Legal Clinics
In March 2001, VLA launched the VLA Legal Clinic, a program facilitating in-person consultations by volunteer attorneys for members of the arts community. The clinics enable VLA members to receive a free half-hour consultation with a volunteer attorney on any arts-related legal issue. The clinic is a valuable source of business and economic development information for artists and resolves the matter at hand in about 75% of cases. During the past year, VLA expanded the legal clinic program by offering additional clinics sponsored and staffed by a single firm, company or organization. For example, volunteers from the Entertainment and Sports Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association have staffed a number of clinics. Law firms such as Shearman & Sterling LLP, Chadbourne & Parke LLP, Seyfarth Shaw LLP, and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP have also sponsored and staffed VLA clinics during the past fiscal year. The ability to arrange a Firm-Sponsored VLA Clinic is open to VLA's Corporate Members only.
