Nonprofit Incorporation and Tax-Exempt Status - The Edmond de Rothschild Nonprofit Assistance Program
If you are interested in forming a nonprofit arts organization or if your existing nonprofit organization is seeking legal advice or representation, VLA can help. VLA offers legal services for existing arts nonprofit organizations as well as specialized services for organizations in their start-up phase, helping them to establish nonprofit corporations and to apply for tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service.
This service consists of:
1. A prerequisite* workshop on Nonprofit Incorporation and Tax Exempt Status. (*mandatory for the initial consult).
2. An initial consultation with a VLA staff attorney or volunteer attorney.
3. Placement with a volunteer attorney who will guide you through the incorporation and tax-exemption process.
4. A one-year organizational membership at VLA (which includes free access to the VLA Legal Clinic).
The cost for this service, including the workshop, is $425. Please note that the $425 does not include filing fees or any out-of-pocket expenses. For more information, or to purchase the package, please call The Art Law Line at 212·319·ARTS (2787), ext.1.
The Edmond de Rothschild Nonprofit Assistance Program in FY 04-05
Assistance to nonprofit arts and cultural organizations has always been an important part of VLA's mission. Supported, in part, by The Edmond de Rothschild Foundation, VLA offers a variety of services to nonprofits of all sizes, from small, start-up dance troupes to established institutions like the Brooklyn Arts Council and New York Foundation for the Arts. This year, VLA continued to offer a comprehensive package for fledgling nonprofits. In Fiscal Year 2004-05, VLA placed 115 nonprofit incorporation and tax-exemption cases with volunteer attorneys. In addition, VLA served more than 300 nonprofit arts and cultural organizations with legal and business matters beyond entity formation and the seeking of tax-exempt status.
